DECAPITATED Guitarist Announces Band's Return; Live Dates Confirmed

http://www.soundcult.com/wp-content/uploads/decapitated-nihility.jpg

Hot Flashes
Posted on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 12:12:20 EST

Poland's DECAPITATED have issued the following update from guitarist Waclaw "Vogg" Kieltyka:

"It’s time to come back!

After a two-year break, Decapitated is coming back with new members. The official new lineup for Decapitated will be announced at the end of December.

As you all know, the decision to continue the band was really, really hard for me, but everything I do now is to keep Decapitated alive. [Vocalist] Covan’s situation has not improved much and he is still in bed and unable to function on his own. He still fights to recover as we speak and we are all still 100% behind him and hope for the best. It has been the hardest thing for me to move on without [brother and drummer] Vitek by my side, but he would have wanted me to continue with the band.

Finally, I have found some great musicians who can continue the work of Vitek and Covan. At the beginning of April, Decapitated will start to play our first reunion shows. We will visit the biggest cities in Australia and play some of the biggest summer festivals in Europe. Don’t worry, we won’t forget about the UK! After this, the band will concentrate on the making of a new album! I would like to thank all the people who have supported us all this time."

Maurizio Iacono of the artist management firm Hard Impact Music adds: "I feel very privileged to have been given the management duties of guiding this great band’s future. Decapitated was a band on the verge of greatness until tragedy hit them and the band’s world stopped suddenly. Today, we have a man on a quest to bring the glory back that was taken from them prematurely. Vogg, the band’s last remaining founding member, has had the gut-wrenching task of forming a new lineup for Decapitated. You can bet that the mission has been accomplished and in honor of the fallen, their legacies will be given the justice they deserve. Our job at Hard Impact is to make sure that Decapitated are guided the right way back to the top."

Gerardo Martínez, Nuclear Blast USA’s Label Manager comments: “I don’t think there’s anyone happier to know that the legacy of Decapitated will continue and the fact that Vogg has overcome the biggest obstacle of his life. We all at Nuclear Blast are extremely excited about the news and know that 2010 and beyond will bring a new chapter for Decapitated in the shape of live shows and the imminent new album. The masters of modern technical death metal are back!”

Decapitated’s Australian tour dates and Metalfest Open Air festival appearances are as follows:

2010 Australian Tour Dates:
April
1 - The Transmission Room - Auckland, New Zealand
2 - The Esplanade Hotel - Melbourne, Australia
3 - The Gaelic Club - Sydney, Australia
4 - The Hi Fi Bar - Brisbane, Australia
5 - Fowlers Live - Adelaide, Australia
6 - Black Betty’s - Perth, Australia

2010 European Festivals:
May
13 - Metalfest Open Air - Mining, Austria
14 - Metalfest Open Air - Pratteln, Switzerland
15 - Metalfest Open Air - Dessau, Germany
22 - Metalfest Open Air - Budapest, Hungary
23 - Metalfest Open Air - Pilsen, Czech Republic

A North American tour is on the horizon for the summer of 2010. More Decapitated tour dates to come.

NO OFFICIAL CAPACITY (RIP) - 2005 - 2009

After many years of ups, downs, drama and money talks, Brent C Lockman has thrown in the towel.

Bands booked through No Official Capacity included = Rotting Christ, Razor, Dead Brain Cells, Kalmah, Estuary, Nargaroth, Peste Noir, Sombre Forets, Utlagr and many more. Brent booked many shows at "The Metal Bar" throughout 2007 until it was shut down due to lack of funds at the end of 2007. While things behind closed doors may have been stressful and hard for Brent, I had many good times at his shows and will never forget those.

All shows will NO LONGER specify PRICE, if its ALL AGES/19+ or the TIME

Reason for this is because I got this message

"OnFriday I did a show with Starring Janet Leigh in Barrie. We had a goodturnout. Nothing incredible but good enough to cover my costs at least.Except I had to turn away probably close to 25 kids and also the doorguy we had turned away a few after this number was first countedearlier on in the night. Do you know why ? Because those kids thoughtthe show was All Ages. When I asked them what gave them that idea, theyall proclaimed, "we saw it listed on this Metalheads.ca page man", "itsaid all ages on this Metalheads website ?", "some website had theflyer up and it said All Ages on it, some metal website".

Also,PLEASE CONFIRM A SHOW before you go out... because since such a highvolume of shows are being listed, I cant keep up to date on everythingwhether it gets cancelled or not

Sorry for the inconvenience.  (The site should be FULLY updated and edited in the next few days to prevent any future hassles.. )

September 10, 2009

"For those who live for metal.. the time is now" ORIGINAL facebook group has been shut down after much consideration. A new group simply called "METALHEADS.CA" has been created for active users to join. After creating a poll on the original site asking 1,219 members if they used the site or not, the numbers came in with over 500 people that dont and 186 that do.. still leaving hundreds with uncast votes. Givin the amount of support VS critism from people regarding this, the numbers have pretty much come in more negative than anything else. Ive decided to start the group from scratch, have a breath of fresh air.. and not worry about people who choose to complain about simple things all the time. Remember, I have not been getting paid for this, so i really have nothing to lose when starting from scatch. I still plan on doing this as a side-project for years to come (hopefully), as support to the local scene so people can be aware of whats going on. Not everyone knows the promoters you know!!

**If your see this.. It doenst apply to any of you because all those "people" declined in the "vote" i made.

Ive faced a lot of weird stuff the last nine months. Heard a lot of weird things from people. Had hate-groups made towards me! Strangers "messaging" my ex-girlfriend telling her things they dont like about me. "Friends" suddenly turning their backs when i see them in person. Hearing things like "Hes so metal" but he doenst play in a band so hes not really metal at all. "Oh Wow. Did you hear how much he spent in Maryland. He must really care about METAL." "Oh wow, hes pathetic, he likes to meet his favourite bands. What a loser." What did I do wrong? All this stuff sickens me to the point where I just want to shoot myself. Please fuck off if you dont like what I do ok?  I dont book shows, so I cant rip anyone off, nor am I behind with listings. Theres nothing anyone can hold against me. A message in your inbox on Facebook?? Boo Hoo!!

Some people in the scene really sadden me.......

Give Up? Fuck That. Ill Start again, Move on...  and filter the idiots out.

Hope your all enjoying this.

ANAL CUNT IN TORONTO!!!

-FIRST CANADIAN APPEARANCE IN 15 YEARS!!!!

http://shop.relapse.com/dbimages/sleeves/5854_216.jpg mce_tsrc=http://shop.relapse.com/dbimages/sleeves/5854_216.jpg

You can catch ANAL CUNT (with guests to be announced ) on December 5, 2009 at the Poor Alex Theatre!! It will be an all ages events. This is some info from the original invite =

Because we cant really keep it a secret any longer.

For the first time in 15 years one of the most controversial bands to ever come out of grindcore ANAL CUNT will be preforming in Toronto for one night only headlining the 2009 GRINDING INTO SHRUBBERY festival.

For over 20 years the band has churned out numorous releases that have been deemed some of the most obscene and controversial grindcore to ever surface. With nearly hundreds of songs dealing with the subjects of homophobia, racism, and female abuse. Although the band itself is merely just a parody none of these things should be taken seriously as it is after all just music. Leadman Seth Putnam has also gained a bit of attention over the years most notably in 2004 when he was admitted to a hospital for being in a coma as a result of a drug overdose and then also by miraculous twist having a song off their 1997 LP "I Like It When You Die" titled "You're In A Coma". Some called it "poetic justice".

Throughout the years of controversy the band has managed to sustain a long lasting career playing all over the world and sharing the stages with great bands like EYEHATEGOD, ANAL BLAST, SOILENT GREEN, IMMOLATION. The band have promised to play a great set filled with lots of songs ranging from their huge discography.

THE REST OF THE LINEUP WILL BE ANNOUNCED WITHIN THE COMING WEEKS, WE JUST THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A COOL WAY TO END THE SUMMER HAHAHA!!!!!!!

THIS IS AN ALL AGES EVENT

PHILIP ANSELMO Opens Up About His Heroin Addiction, PANTERA's Breakup - Aug. 19, 2009

http://api.ning.com/files/EkS8BB8pDGwUVWVMGa4gsx1MWISjy9ROmwu3rvVffbq6Bnr1-CSy7u1Z838YuwWmgpU97ISdNTBbiXWAZVTRST1B0Jp1AIEn/PanteraGroupShotC10086097.jpeg mce_tsrc=http://api.ning.com/files/EkS8BB8pDGwUVWVMGa4gsx1MWISjy9ROmwu3rvVffbq6Bnr1-CSy7u1Z838YuwWmgpU97ISdNTBbiXWAZVTRST1B0Jp1AIEn/PanteraGroupShotC10086097.jpeg

On March 16, 2009, former PANTERA and current DOWN singer Philip Anselmo spoke passionately and candidly about his music career and his history with — and the dangers of — drugs, particularly heroin, during an appearance at the Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Several portions of the question-and-answer session have been transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET and follow below.

On his drug-abuse history:

Anselmo: "There is no reason, really, that I can point to [for why I started doing drugs]. I am extremist when it comes to everything. Anything I set my mind to, I am an absolute extremist — I cannot say it any better. And I was injured; I had a back injury from... And I don't suggest anyone do this, but I would climb up on top of PA systems and dive head first either into the waiting crowd or into the waiting concrete; it made no difference. I would attack — I would attack on stage, and I paid for it. I ultimately injured myself, and like putting a Band-Aid over a cancer... When you rupture a disk in your back, it begins this thing called degenerative disk disease, so that means the next one's going, and, obviously, the next one after that, and so on and so forth. Well, I think it was about the time when the record [PANTERA's 1994 album, 'Far Beyond Driven'] came in at No. 1. I was pretty terrified. I was happy as hell; don't get me wrong, man — I was like, 'Oh, my God, yes!' At that point, I had just gotten back from the doctor — [from having] my second MRI [done] — and I realized I had two blown-out disks. Now, in order for me to be this Superman that the media had built me out to be, I had to quell that pain. So I started off with regular painkillers and muscle relaxers. Eventually, you climb up the painkiller ladder, because painkillers lie to you; they will magnify that injury. And that's all that's on your mind — the injury and painkillers. Up the ladder I went — stronger painkillers, stronger painkillers, stronger painkillers — and you hear, and you damn well know, when your audience is looking at you different, when your bandmembers are looking at you different — 'Man, what is wrong with Phil? What is wrong with Phil?' — you get a little tired; you get weary of it. You feel like this 20-something-year-old — which I was — juggernaut, man; you wanna leap out of your skin, but you can't anymore — you can't just hang out anymore, because it hurts to hang out, or you're too loaded. And once everyone starts laying this trip on you, that's when you close the door and the needle slides in. And from that point on, you are on your own, you're on a ride, and I wouldn't suggest on anyone in this room — I wouldn't suggest on my worst enemy — this particular ride."

On whether he felt the record label glorified the drug use:

Anselmo: "Absolutely not. Normally, the record company is out of the loop, the last to know. They're mechanics. I'll tell you what happens, though. When you're signed to a big record contract — which I don't even know if it really exists anymore today; the music system is so different — but back in the '90s, when you had a record contract, you had publicists, you had a million different tentacles and satellites that were doing work for you. But normally, a publicist is the one who pushes you to have your face on the cover of these magazines — the Kurt Cobains, the Layne Staleys... Rest in peace, by the way. And me — destroyed, drug-riddled, pathetic, yellow — right there on the cover of magazines, and... you had no choice but to submit and be put under a microscope. And hey, it's a chapter of your life, man — it don't go away. And they will glorify you; when you're on top of the world, they will make you — the media, that is — they will make you... MTV, magazines, VH1 — it don't matter — they'll make you Superman. But once Superman stumbles, it's kind of like the old adage, man: Once you get big enough for your head to see over that fence, that's when people start throwing rocks at it. Once Superman trips up, man, they will judge your talent, your accomplishments, and your trip-ups, and solidify your entire life in one paragraph. And it hurts. It hurts, 'cause you know they don't know you. They don't really know you; they don't know the struggles, they don't know what it's like. Most writers and media people are wannabe musicians, anyway, that can't do it. And that's the truth."

On whether he still mistrusts the media:

Anselmo: "Absolutely. Absolutely. Because... Straight-up, man... Case in point: When PANTERA was breaking up, I was a wounded animal. My will was defeated. I could be drug one way or another. I started another band, side band — SUPERJOINT RITUAL — that turned into this other thing when PANTERA was hanging, and then this media thing. A war of words via black-and-white sentences. You sit there and you read it... Now, basically, what happened was I did this particular interview with this cat [referring to a Metal Hammer interview that was published in December 2004, just a few days before PANTERA guitarist Dimebag was murdered. — Ed.], and on the way out, we're walking off the bus, he's behind me, and he's like, 'Man, I hope this doesn't get out of hand between you and Dimebag and Vinnie.' He goes, 'Man, what would happen if they jumped you or something like that?' Got mad at me or jumped me — a very hypothetical thing. The way I speak, you know... I said something to the effect of, 'I'd kill those boys; they can't fight me. I'd kill them boys.' You read that in black and white — 'I'd kill those boys' — and it is as literal as a mofo; it is literal. And they took it very literally. And the media ran with that, man — all over the world, man. In different languages. And at that point, there's no more... There is a rift. So, yes, I don't trust the media at all unless I have to sit there and really think of a concrete answer. You can't wear your emotions on your sleeve around the media, and I do wear my emotions on my sleeve, big-time."

On whether he feels that when all that started happening, he turned more to heroin to get through the tough times:

Anselmo: "No way. I was already knee-deep in heroin, neck-deep in heroin. That made no difference. It didn't make me turn any which way or another. If anything, it made me wanna pick that phone up and go, 'Wait a minute, Dimebag. Wait a minute, Vince. This is taken way out of hand, bro.' But there was no answer at the other end of the phone, and they weren't calling me either."

On whether it was his will that eventually got him to stop picking up the needle or stop using altogether:

Anselmo: "That's a tough question right there. Once you close the door and slide that needle in, heroin is the great controller of all — every single goddamn thing you do. The way you sleep, the way you wake up in the morning and your hands reach over pathetically to get your first fix of the day, which gets you out of bed. As a matter of fact, heroin, in a nutshell... When I say it controls everything, I mean everything. People think painkillers and things like that are only numbing out pain?! You take them for long enough, they start numbing out your emotion, man. And once your emotion is numbed out, then you are controlled. It's got you. It's the most important thing in your life, whether it be this tiny little pill or this funny dust. And you're trading your family, your brothers and your sisters, the brothers and sisters you call friends on the street — lifelong friends — you'll stab them in the back, you'll break their hearts, and you won't even know it."

"You're not getting high anymore. It's fear that controls you. Because once you start chasing your own tail... There's two points here. Especially as a musician, once you start something — a band; something that's from your heart, something that's organic, from you — and I was lucky enough to have this success... I don't know about luck; I broke my back for what I believed in. I bled for my music, man. But heroin... when I say it controls all, I wasn't singing anymore about levels of confidence and power and walking and all these songs of positivity, I was singing about dope. It even comes out in your lyrics, man; it comes out in your music. You go back and listen to it, and it's like, 'Oh, my God.' You lost yourself. Yup, you sure did. You chase your tail. It's fear. The junkie fears the sickness, the illness, 'cause dope-sick ain't fun, bro. It's miserable. And the only thing that cleans it up and fixes it up is more dope. Unless you are genius enough — like I was — to start taking methadone. Once you start taking methadone, it's over for 90 percent of people. They live their lives to wake up at 9 a.m., go to the methadone clinic, their dose and go on about their lives. What happens when [hurricane] Katrina hits and then methadone clinics were closed? I'll tell you what happens. You go into the worst detox — crippling detox... I had a friend of mine who was thrown in jail during Katrina, and he was on... whatever milligram... It doesn't matter how many milligrams you're on; you're on it. He had to detox in jail, and he was so goddamn pathetic, they had to throw him in the hole by himself — take him out of the populace. The only way I can describe coming off methadone is falling from a 50-story building every three minutes of your life. Every three minutes of your life is terrifying. That's why people can't come off. You get me? It's fear. . . Once you start chasing your tail, no matter how great you were, how great you are, or whatever you think... it don't matter what the magazines say, it don't matter what your fans say; it matters what's going on with you. There's two points: high and sick. High and sick. What happens in between? Huh? Fucking zero. Zero. Lest you're out on the road, like me, and you've gotta get up in front of 20,000 people and make a rolicking ass of yourself. And get judged in print — your whole life. Microcosm in some crappy, glossy-page metal magazine. That ain't no epitaph, bro. That ain't no epitaph, ladies and gents. No way."

On how long he's been sober:

Anselmo: "Sober is a harsh word." [Interviewer clarifies: "When was the last time you picked up the needle."] "Now that is a hardcore story. I was with a friend of mine. I was home with dope. This was 2002, or 2003... I'm not gonna guess anymore, but somewhere around there. And this friend of mine, we used to party back in the day — shoot dope all the time. This guy was a little bit of a follower. Smart guy. Extremely talented. Anyway, me and him were together, we were speeding down the highway — a pitch-dark highway in Louisiana somewhere on our way to a gig. And there's two guys driving upfront. And he tells me, 'Man, I'd like to party tonight.' And I'm sitting there thinking to myself, 'Wow, it's been awhile, man. You sure? You sure?' 'Yeah, I'm sure.' So, me being the medical genius I am back then, I gave him what I'd call a 'pussy shot' — a little bit; just a little touch. And I injected him. I asked him, 'How're you feeling, bro?' And he was, like, [speaking slowly], 'Good, man.' Someone upfront asked me a question — just like that; that quick — and I turned around, I answered, I turned back around, and this dude was stiff, his eyes were closed and his lips were like that [pushing his lips together], tight. And I said, 'Hey!' I called his name several times. No answer. Boom. I'm freaking out. I grab this dude, and he is as rigid as rigor mortis. And I'm grabbing him and I'm shaking him and shaking him and I'm pulling his beard and I'm slapping his face, and I grabbed the ice cooler and I reached down his damn pants, I'm putting ice down his pants. My friend, who I've known since I was 16 years old, is overdosing. Ain't no damn hospital! Speeding down the back roads of Louisiana. I'm looking around and I'm freaking. I don't know where to tell these guys to drive, and my friend, he's dead. I freaked out and I went [makes punching motion] right in his chest. Boom. His eyes popped open. One pupil was looking this way and the other one this way — kind of like the actor Marty Feldman. And I was scared, man. He wasn't back yet, man; he looked crazy. I was thinking brain damage, retardation... I didn't know what was going on, [so] I hit him again. And his eyes went right back together. And I'm like, 'Oh, my God.' I stayed awake with him all night long. He was sleepy. Kept trying to dose off. Probably still loaded. Boom, I'd kick him. We got back to my house. I laid him out on my sofa. We stayed up 'till the sun came up. I stayed up with him. I wouldn't let him go to sleep. And this whole time, I'm sitting there thinking to myself, 'I just killed my best friend and brought him back to life.' No, I ain't a saint. I ain't no saint, man. I'm the king of liars. I'm the king of deceit. It's what heroin makes you. It's what dope makes you. Cocaine, heroin... whatever. They all go hand in hand. They're all in the same boat, and that boat sinks. It's got holes in it. And that was the last time I ever picked that damn needle up. That was the last time I did heroin."

On some of the lasting effects heroin has had on him:

Anselmo: "Lasting effects? It depends on the person. I still have friends that have been clean longer than I have, and they still have dreams about it. That's very common, too. They go to certain parts of town and they're like, 'Oh, man, that's right where I used to cop [drugs]. That's where I used to go — right down that alley, meet this guy,' and then tell the whole story. It's constant. It's constantly in your brain in one form or another. With me? I know it as enemy. That's why I'm here today, honestly. 'Cause you can't fight heroin. The only way to fight, I figure, is to wisen you people up now. And that's tough, man. 'Cause when you're in your 20s — early 20s and shit like that — your will is aloof. 'Cause your will is your path. And all I suggest is you navigate slowly. Because life is going to test you anyway. Ain't none of us born with a silver spoon, really. It don't matter what walk of life you're from, life is going to test you anyway. And point being, if you're gonna go ahead and cripple yourself on dope, number one, you're not gonna be equipped to deal with life's tests, and number two, you're either gonna end up in jail or in the morgue. And I've seen it all. I've toured with hundreds of bands; I've seen hundreds of addictions. PANTERA... Still... Still... Don't you even imagine this ain't true, and if you do, you'd better wake up and apologize — we were the hardest-drinking band on the planet. Hands down. And I'll tell you what: If Dimebag were alive today, he'd be in some severe medical difficulty, because Rex [Brown], the bass player — my bass player — drank himself so stupid, he's got pancreatitis now. He's 42 years old. 42 years old and pancreatitis.... You know what that means? That means if he takes a sip of a wine cooler, he has no idea if it's going to kill him or not. Kill him. And at one point, yeah, he was acting just like a junkie. Hiding bottles. Hiding, hiding, hiding. Any of you watch that show 'Intervention' [on the A&E network]? It's entertaining, isn't it? It's true. It's real. Rex was like any alcoholic on that damn show. He lived in California, and I swear to you, the night the entire band was going to meet and have an intervention with my bass player, he had already done himself in. And at this point... Look, man, I'm not gonna talk about the negative after this, because there is a positive side... This dude [Rex] has probably spent over a hundred thousand dollars on high-dollar, high-class detox centers. Medical help-me centers, you know. The first three times he went... 'I'm doing it for my kids.' 'I'm doing it to save my marriage,' the next time. 'I'm doing it to get back in the band,' the third time. Guess what?! Nothing worked. You know why? You've got to do it for yourself, and you have got to want it for yourself. You can speak all the language you want, 'cause you'll hear it out of the addicts. 'Oh, yeah yeah yeah, man. Oh, I'm fine.' [Addressing his mother] Mommy — my mom's here — how many times did I tell you, 'I'm fine' and I was full of shit? Hundreds? Thousands? She's telling the truth."

VISIONS OF THE NIGHT - CONCERT IN ORANGEVILLE SHUT DOWN? (I didnt get around to seeing this until today)

Regarding the controversy/Police shutting down the concert on July 11, 2009 in Orangeville, Ont
Current mood:warlike
Setting the record straight:

Some “concerned citizens” did call the police to have the concert shut down during the July 11, 2009 Orangeville, Ontario concert.

Yes, the barbed wire barricades that were brought and placed at the front of the stage were real. A warning was broadcast over the loudspeaker after the first song to warn people and prevent injury. Barbed wire (including its use and display) is not illegal in Ontario.

Yes, we had several firearms acquisition forms on hand at our merch booth and gave them out to anybody who asked for one. We believe the populace should have the option of owning firearms. The forms in no way guarantee a license will be granted. A series of tests and a background check must also be performed first. Handing out information that can lead to a citizen owning a legal firearm is not illegal in Ontario.

Noise levels should not have been an issue either. Orangeville's own noise bylaw #12-96 in section 4 part C exempts bands/musicians that fall under: “...or for any public celebration or other gathering for which written permission has been obtained from the town of Orangeville.” Which it was. There was no legal reason for the concert to be shut down.

Yes, we play a form of extreme metal that average people don't really 'get'. Trust us when we say this, average/popular music is just as grating to our ears as our music would be those who dislike it. That being said, no metalheads called the cops on the other bands of differing styles that were also playing. If you want your style of music played, you must also be prepared to tolerate some that you don't.

None of our equipment/props/forms were confiscated by the police. They are with us and we will continue to use them in future shows. Nor have we been banned from the city of Orangeville.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank the fans/bands/venue that gave us their support in this matter. We apologize to the fans that the complaints of a few, ruined something for the rest. We shall return.

Enslaved and Hole in the Sky presents A Blaze in the Northern Sky – Hole in the Sky 10 year anniversary

Wow, it's been 10 years already. Who would have though that when we first started planning the first festival in 1999 as a tribute to our late friend Erik «Grim» Brødreskift. It's been a phenomenal ride, with lots of great memories to cherish, fantastic concerts and an incredible audience that shows up in numbers each year. This calls for celebration. We’ve always paid much attention to tradition, but we’ve also tried to look ahead at the same time. With the 2009 edition having the strongest focus on the local scene since the inception of this event, it feels like we’ve come full circle. To prove that Bergen scene is as vital as ever, we’ve invited Enslaved to host the birthday bash of the century. A band that helped set the bench mark for what Norwegian extreme metal was all about and what it has grown to become.

«A Blaze in the Northern Sky» will be a perfect reflection of just that, cutting edge and progressive together with a dive into the historic vaults of what defined the Norwegian scene together with prominent guests from (among others) Darkthrone, Emperor and Mayhem «Having a good part of the Norwegian black metal royalty sharing stage with Enslaved in a historic collection of Norwegian black metal history must be the ultimate celebration for ourselves and the fans. I'm sure the band will elaborate about the content, but we're confident that it will be more than spectacular.»

Torgrim Øyre, promoter

«2009 is indeed a special year. This year we will celebrate the 10th anniversary for, in my humble opinion, the greatest metal festival in the world. It is not the biggest festival in size, not even in Norway, but definitely in atmosphere. Just ask the metal heads traveling from all over the world once a year to a small town on the west banks of the pile of rocks called Norway, just to absorb the atmosphere of this unique event. I think most of them will agree. Since this is a big event for both of us, we figured that we wanted it to be more than a conventional Enslaved gig (if that is considered conventional?). Therefore we decided to ask some great friends to join in on the celebration. We have asked legends in the extreme metal scene, that has supported us, inspired us and have been partying with us over the years. Every single one of them had just as little doubts as we had and are honoured to play theirs parts on this very special evening.»

Grutle Kjellson, Enslaved.GOD SEED/Ex-GORGOROTH Frontman GAAHL 'Retires' From Metal Music - Aug. 16, 2009

GOD SEED — the Norwegian band featuring former GORGOROTH members King (bass; real name: Tom Cato Visnes) and Gaahl (vocals; real name: Kristian Espedal) — has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:

"It has been rumored that Gaahl and King have disbanded GOD SEED. However, this is not the case. Gaahl has chosen to retire from metal music. It should not be assumed that this decision has anything to do with Gaahl and King's working relationship. Gaahl has made this decision for his own personal artistic reasons."

Commented King in a statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET: "There is no drama and there is no bad blood between us; Gaahl just wants a break from metal. GOD SEED will be frozen and I'm prepared to pick it up again when the time is right. Meanwhile, I will focus on other musical projects."

Eyewitness: CRADLE OF FILTH Guitarist Could Have Been Killed - Aug. 16, 2009

British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH were forced to cut their set short last night (Saturday, August 15) at the Bloodstock Open Air festival in Derbyshire, England after guitarist Paul Allender was hit by an object thrown by a member of the audience, resulting in Paul being unable to finish the performance and requiring medical attention.

A BLABBERMOUTH.NET user by the name of "metalfanBKP" has submitted the following eyewitness account from the event:

"I am writing in to say what happened during the CRADLE OF FILTH set last night at Bloodstock. I am still absolutely appalled at the incident and feel that the official statement from Bloodstock organisers issued last night does not full portray the seriousness of the incident.

"I was standing in the second row, just in front of the centre of the stage, so I had a clear view of everything.

"Even before Paul Allender got hit by the missile, the band already had to dodge bottles and cups thrown at them. Dani Filth [CRADLE vocalist] at one point remarked, that 'if you are going to throw things at us, make sure they are full!' Up to that point, this was nothing out of the ordinary, however unpleasant this must have been for the band.

"However, during the sixth or seventh song of the set, when the both guitarists were not playing and were standing at the back of the stage with their backs turned to the audience (as members of COF seem to always do when they are not playing), someone threw a large object that hit Paul Allender in the lower back. He grimaced and put his hand to his back, immediately leaving the stage. The rest of the band continued playing the song without him and, eventually, they all left the stage.

"After about 10 minutes of silence, the organisers had announced that a missile thrown at the band had injured one of the band members and that the band would not continue. This happened approximately 35 minutes into an 80-minute set that COF was expected to play.

"Having spoken to the security at the front after the crowd began to disperse, I found out that Paul was actually taken to hospital (which accounted for the sound of ambulance sirens that was heard) and that the object thrown was, in fact, a 'gobstopper,' which is like a giant golf ball. It is incredibly dense and very heavy; if it had hit someone on the head, one of these objects could actually be lethal. What is more, three or more of these 'gobstoppers' had been found on the stage, which would indicate that someone actually targeted the band and that the missile hitting Paul Allender was not just a one-off.

"I do not know if Paul Allender was targeted purposefully for whatever reason, but the missile hit him as he was standing far away from the edge of the stage, with his back turned, which would suggest that the object was at least thrown in his direction.

"In these circumstances, as the Bloodstock announcer had said, 'the band could not continue for security reasons.' As far as I know, as of yesterday evening, the culprit was not yet found. The festival security did seem pretty relaxed with no obvious checks or searches taking place of those entering the arena and it looks like COF might have paid the price for this."

Said guitarist Morgan Håkansson from Baltimore: "Finally, after so many problems and unforeseen difficulties, MARDUK has entered North America. We are excited to finally be here again. Swedish black metallers NAGLFAR have issued the following update:

"NAGLFAR is currently working on the follow-up to 'Harvest'. In the not-too-distant future, the recordings will begin and further information will then be released."

"Harvest" was released in February 2007 through Century Media Records. According to a press release, "Harvest" combines NAGLFAR's "original sound with the massive thrust of later years. True to the Swedish formula of bringing the harsh bleakness of the black style together with the technical prowess and high-speed assault of death metal, NAGLFAR have created another masterpiece of their genre." A limited-edition version of the album containing a bonus DVD (featuring four professionally recorded live clips from the Party.San Open Air festival 2006, the video for the track "The Perpetual Horrors" as well as an interview with lead singer Kristoffer Olivius) was also made available. The cover artwork was created by Travis Smith.

Reunited cult favorites GOREAPHOBIA will release their long-awaited full-length debut, "Mortal Repulsion", on August 18 via Ibex Moon Records.

The track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. Ordeal Of The Abyss
02. Amulet Of Damnation
03. Negative Screams (Passage Intro)
04. Grave Plagued Planet
05. Primal Nothingness

09. A Grievous Curse
10. Ascending Into Vices
11. The Inevitable Punishment/Faded Into Ends (Part II)
12. Mortal Repulsion

Check out the cover artwork below.

GOREAPHOBIA has replaced PATHOLOGY on this summer's Slaves to Society U.S. tour featuring death metal legends MASTER and Ibex Moon labelmates DREAMING DEAD.

At the height of the late 1980s, the thrash and death metal underground was headed toward a new and exciting change when a Philadelphia-based, extreme, darkened, death metal entity named GOREAPHOBIA was born. Alex Bouks (guitar) and Chris Gamble (bass/vocals) founded the band in the summer of 1988. Alex and Chris had the same interest in extreme underground metal music. The style, sound, and lyrical concepts were influenced by some of the most inspiring, and pioneering bands of our time such as REPULSION, NECROVORE, PENTAGRAM (Chile), NECROPHAGIA, POSSESSED, CARNIVORE, VOIVOD, HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST and AUTOPSY.

GOREAPHOBIA has shared the stage with countless well-known and respected metal acts such as MORBID ANGEL, NOCTURNUS, SEPULTURA, NAPALM DEATH, CARCASS, REPULSION, AUTOPSY, DEATH, ENTOMBED, and UNLEASHED. With only one demo, and a 7" EP released by Relapse Records in 1991 named "Omen of Masochism", GOREAPHOBIA embarked on a large North American tour as the support act for New York death metal masters IMMOLATION in the summer of 1992. Approximately one year later, the bandmembers decided to go seaprate ways and continue on to new ventures and other side projects. Now in 2009, the renewed and compelling power of GOREAPHOBIA has re-ignited both Alex and Chris to reconnect and continue the passion for the musical entity GOREAPHOBIA. With a shining new soul of darkness and ravenous musical inspiration, GOREAPHOBIA has become stronger and more seriously focused then ever before with the addition of Jim Roe (drums) and John McEntee (guitars), both from the legendary extreme death metal band INCANTATION. The relationship between both bands has always been of great friendship, respect, and support. It was only wise and fitting to have these two extreme death metal forces join as one.

HYPOCRISY: New Album Title, Artwork Revealed - July 14, 2009

HYPOCRISY, the Swedish extreme metal band led by guitarist/vocalist Peter Tägtgren (also of PAIN), has set "A Taste Of Extreme Divinity" as the title of its new album, due on October 23 in Europe via Nuclear Blast Records. Peter states, "I'm at the end of the recording and mixing; a few songs left to sing on. The rest are done mixing-wise. It's just been too busy with touring and recording bands, and I didn't wanna burn myself out totally." He adds, "We're happy [with] the result so far; it got everything a HYPO album should have in our own point of view."

Check out the CD cover artwork below.

HYPOCRISY will kick off a U.S. tour in support of "A Taste Of Extreme Divinity" on November 5, with ENSIFERUM as the headliner. A European headlining trek will follow in January 2010.

HYPOCRISY reissued its 2002 album "Catch 22" under the title "Catch 22 V2.0.08" in May 2008. Peter Tägtgren re-recorded the guitar parts, his vocals and remixed and remastered the LP for the new version of the album, which featured bonus material.

The band previously stated about its decision to re-release the CD, "We still think it is a great fucking album but it got slammed and misunderstood because of the vocal style and the drum sound and so on."

HYPOCRISY's latest album, "Virus", came out in September 2005 via Nuclear Blast Records.

HYPOCRISY's video for the song "Scrutinized" (taken from "Virus") can be viewed below.

VARG VIKERNES Says He Has Written Nine Songs For New BURZUM Album - July 6, 2009
Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh), the BURZUM mastermind who was convicted of murdering MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) in August 1993 and setting fire to three churches, has finished writing nine songs for BURZUM's new album, which he hopes to release next year. He tells Norway's Dagbladet that several record labels are interested in issuing the band's first LP in eleven years. "I want to take my time [with the album], so that I can get it the way I like it," Vikernes says. "It will be metal, and the fans can expect to hear some real BURZUM."

Dagbladet has posted several exclusive excerpts from Varg Vikernes' as-yet-unpublished book which he wrote during his nearly-16-year prison stay. The book contains Varg's personal account of of what transpired in the years from the Norwegian black metal community's inception in 1991 until he was convicted for murder and church fires three years later.

"I am not the 'Count' that has been portrayed in the media," Vikernes tells Dagbladet. "That is just sad. Those who have known me a long time know that what was written about me was not the complete truth. But I am partly to blame for how things were presented in the press. That's why I wrote this book, which I hope to release via a publisher. I will lay this issue to rest and put what happened behind me. I will begin a new phase in life."

Dagbladet: Do you regret the fact that you killed another human being?

Vikernes: "I cannot regret the fact that I took the life of someone who wanted to kill me. I felt threatened by his plans, but it was never my intention to kill."

Dagbladet: Do you think that you can kill again?

Vikernes: "Everyone is capable of killing. But there is less chance that I will kill again, because I've been in that situation before, and so I know better how to deal with it. It is not possible to know how to behave in threatening situations before you even end up in such a situation. Had I been in the same situation today, I would have contacted the police first."

Although his parole application was denied four times — most recently in September 2008 — Vikernes received word in February that he would be released after serving almost 16 years in prison. He was finally allowed to leave this past spring, according to Dagbladet.

Vikernes currently resides in Bø, a municipality in the county of Telemark, Norway. Varg purchased the farm sometime last year and lives on the property with his French wife (whom he met while he was incarcerated) and son.

"It was completely random that we ended up buying a home here," Vikernes tells Dagbladet. "We wanted a quiet and peaceful place with beautiful scenery outside the city. It is so beautiful up here. Here we can be by ourselves. But there is a lot of work that is required to maintain the house, lawn and garden."

SATYRICON: 'Lords Of Chaos' Book Is Inaccurate Story That 'Exploits' History Of Black Metal -

Picture from Matthew's collection. (Figured it would be a cool time to use it.. )

Vocalist Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven and drummer Kjetil-Vidar "Frost" Haraldstad of the Norwegian black metal band SATYRICON have expressed their disgust over the reports that the "Lords Of Chaos" book is being turned into a movie.

Michael Moynihan and Didrik Soderlind's book claims to depict "true events" and revolves around the black metal sub-culture that spawned a wave of murders and church arsons across Norway in the early 1990s.

Jackson Rathbone, the teen heartthrob from "Twilight", has reportedly agreed to play Varg Vikernes (a.k.a. Count Grishnackh) — the former BURZUM mastermind who served a lengthy Norwegian prison term for the August 1993 murder of MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) and setting fire to three churches — in the "Lords Of Chaos" movie.

Making his English-language debut with "Lords Of Chaos" will be hot Japanese director Sion Sono.

Stuart Pollok of Los Angeles-based Saltire Entertainment, Ko Mori of Eleven Arts and Oh Jungwan of Korea's Bom Productions are producing the film, which starts shooting in Norway in mid-September.

Speaking to Pål Nordseth of Norway's Dagbladet.no, Satyr said, "Now that the focus on black metal finally has shifted towards the actual music, this gossip journalism in the shape of a book is made into a movie. Since 'Lords of Chaos' is an incredibly bad book, I can only assume the movie will be bad as well."

He continued, "It is sad that such an inaccurate story, written by someone who doesn't understand black metal, has become a book of reference. And it is sad that someone is willing to go that far to exploit the history of black metal."

Frost added: "This is a parasitic phenomenon."

Both musicians stressed that they do not want to give any extra publicity to the movie. They also flat-out declined to comment on Varg Vikernes' recent release from prison.

Three years ago, plans had been underway to make the "Lords Of Chaos" book into a film. However, the producers lacked funding at the time.

Now, however, with funding underway, producer Pollok was in Cannes in May to promote the project.

Regarding hsi decision to make the film, Pollok told Dagbladet.no, "It is a fascinating topic, a great visual world to depict, and a fun portrayal of Norway. Black metal is possibly the largest cultural export of Norway in the past twenty years."

In his manuscript to Norway's Hans Fjellestad, Pollok revealed that the film will be based on actual events.

It will be a story of youth and youthful energy, said Pollok, but he emphasised that the film will fall under the teen film category, and that it will be a psychological horror film.

The events that came to pass are interesting and fascinating, said Pollok.

Pollok confirmed to Dagbladet.no that he will also be casting Norwegian actors.

Svein Andresen of Film Camp, which is responsible for the Norwegian recording locations and production, stated, "What happened has been widely known to the public for a long time, and is now known worldwide. This was a gang that declared war on society. Actually, it is not surprising that Norwegian filmmakers have picked up on this piece of history."

In a 2004 statement posted on the Burzum.org web site, Vikernes slammed the "Lord Of Chaos" book as "a pool of mud," insisting that "the vast majority of all the statements made in this book are either misinterpretations; taken out of context; misunderstandings; malicious lies made by enemies; a result of ignorance; extreme exaggerations; and/or third-hand information at best. This includes the statements attributed to me!" He went on to say, "This book serves only one single purpose and that is to create a myth around my name and to mystify me. If that was their objective they have indeed succeeded with their work. Well, the book seems to have served one other purpose too. The authors have managed to fill the heads of a generation of metal fans with lies. What could have been a righteous revolt has been made into some pathetic, embarrassing, brain-dead, impotent and traditional poser-culture best exemplified by bands like DIMMU BORGIR — and indeed VENOM!"

SARKE To Be Joined By Former CELTIC FROST Frontman For WACKEN OPEN AIR Performance - July 3, 2009

SARKE, the Norwegian band featuring Sarke (KHOLD, TULUS, OLD MAN'S CHILD, SENSA ANIMA) and Nocturno Culto (DARKTHRONE), will be joined by Tom Gabriel Fischer (CELTIC FROST, HELLHAMMER) on stage at this year's Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany for a performance of the CELTIC FROST classic "Dethroned Emperor".

Commented SARKE in a statement: "We are all massive fans of Tom and his music, and we are honored to share the stage with him at Wacken!"

Added Fischer: "It's an honor and a privilege to be invited to appear onstage with SARKE, a group whose lineup doesn't only contain personal friends but also musicians I respect deeply. We shall make our appearance at Wacken a truly special event!"

SARKE's lineup is completed by Asgeir Mickelson (SPIRAL ARCHITECT, THORNBOUND, BORKNAGAR), Cyrus (SUSPERIA) and Anders Hunstad (EL CACO, AUTOPULVER, MORTEN ABEL).

SARKE's debut album, "Vorunah", was released in April via Indie Recordings.

An e-card for the CD featuring audio samples of the entire album can be found at this location.

SARKE might sound like a new name, and in fact it is, but this grim story has more pages than one first might think.

Formed in 2008 by its namesake Sarke, who has spread his angry art through KHOLD, TULUS, OLD MAN'S CHILD and SENSA ANIMA, SARKE is a mesmerizing journey through dark and soothing soundscapes, inspired by legends like MAYHEM, SLAYER, DARKTHRONE, CELTIC FROST, BLACK SABBATH, CANDLEMASS, DEATH, MOTÖRHEAD and KREATOR.

For this musical quest, Sarke wanted to create music that has inspired him since he got into the extreme metal scene, and thus Nocturno Culto from the mighty DARKTHRONE was brought on board, making the core of the project complete.

All music and lyrics are written by Sarke, but adding Nocturno's legendary voice to these songs, has without a doubt added another dimension to the grimness.

"Vorunah" was recorded in November, and even though the album was recorded in old-fashioned '70s style to get the true vibe of the music,

"Vorunah" was produced by Sarke with Lars-Erik Westby. It features the following track listing:

01. Primitive Killing
02. Vorunah
03. The Drunken Priest
04. Frost Junkie
05. Old
06. Cult Ritual
07. 13 Candles
08. Dead Universe

Maurizio stated, "First I'd like to say a big THANK YOU for the overwhelming response for the video to the title track, 'Romulus'. Word of mouth has been spreading like wildfire worldwide about EX DEO at the moment! I didn't think there were so many metalheads that were into the concept of the band and Roman history as much as I am. I was anxious to see the response of the people of Italy and Rome today and the media there has accepted us with open arms. Now with their seal of approval we can show the world ROME! Today we present you another defiant track called 'Legio XIII'. It’s a song in honor of Rome's most devastating and lethal Legion ever assembled; the 13th Legion which helped bring Caesar to power."

Co-headlining throughout will be Finland's KORPIKLAANI and Germany's DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER. THE HAUNTED Guitarist Talks About Upcoming WITCHERY Album - June 15, 2009
Guitarist Patrik Jensen of THE HAUNTED and WITCHERY was interviewed for this week's edition of "The Governor's Ball". during the chat, Jensen divulges exclusive details on the upcoming WITCHERY album currently in production.

You can download the program at this location.

WITCHERY's last album, "Don't Fear the Reaper", was released in March 2006. The CD was recorded at Berno Studios (AMON AMARTH, DARK FUNERAL) in 2004, with mixing duties entrusted to Tue Madsen and his Antfarm Studios (THE HAUNTED, HEAVEN SHALL BURN). The artwork was created by David Diaz (P.O.D.) can be viewed here. The North American release features an exclusive track, a cover version of SATANIC SLAUGHTER's classic "Legion of Hades".

Begun in 1997 when their cult band SATANIC SLAUGHTER splintered, WITCHERY started as guitarists Patrik Jensen (THE HAUNTED) and Richard Corpse, vocalist Toxine, drummer Mique, and bassist Sharlee D'Angelo (ARCH ENEMY, MERCYFUL FATE). In 1998 they recorded their pioneering debut, "Restless and Dead", released that year by Necropolis Records. The album was so extremely well-received that WITCHERY released the "Witchburner" mini-album later that year. The EP featured two original songs and four covers bearing witness to the individual musicians' influences. Not long after its release, WITCHERY embarked on 1999's infamous U.S. tour with EMPEROR and BORKNAGAR. Their second full-length album, "Dead, Hot and Ready", was unleashed soon thereafter, and a six-week early 2000 European tour followed. "Symphony for the Devil", the band's 2001 release, was recorded at Berno Studio (AMON AMARTH, DARK FUNERAL) in Malmö, Sweden with new skinsman, Martin "Axe" Axenrot (BLOODBATH, OPETH). Returning to tour North America later that year with THE HAUNTED, WITCHERY again left fans spellbound with their live performance.

MARDUK STATEMENT ABOUT US TOUR

Marduk.jpg Marduk image by KinG_FrosT
The situation with MARDUK not having performed during the first half of Blackenedfest is due to one member of the band not having received his visa yet.

It is not a 'denied' visa. The band filed for a P-1 non-immigrant working visa, which is required for a band to play in the states. The visa was APPROVED by the United States Government's Homeland Security Office.

Furthermore, as required, the band members each individually went to their visa appointments at the U.S. embassy in Stockholm for the standard interview, at which point the persons handling the band's applications informed the band that there was no further action needed and that they should expect their passports in the mail with the P-1 visa attached.

Everyone in the band received theirs except Mortuus...

”There was no missing document, as earlier stated by Earsplit, but a legal document in Swedish that the US Embassy one day (!) prior to departure informed us that they needed to have ”professionally translated” into English in order to finalize the visa - even though we specifically asked them months earlier if it was ok that some documents were in Swedish; their response being: ”Yes, there is no problem, we have people here that speak Swedish”. Note that a translation from a certified agency (which is a mandatory) takes up to a week - and the Embassy is well aware of this. So, why they waited until the very last day to give us this information, or why the other member’s documents needed no translation, one can only imagine”
/Mort.

We are currently awaiting each day for the passport to be returned to Mortuus with the visa stamp. The embassy is aware of the urgency of this matter and we expect the band to join the tour in progress any day now.

MARDUK are prepared to make up the shows they missed immediately after Blackenedfest ends. These dates will be announced shortly.
/Marduk.

OZZY OSBOURNE Says He Was Stoned Every Day While Filming 'The Osbournes' - May 4, 2009

Rick Fulton of U.K.'s The Daily Record reports: Ozzy Osbourne has admitted he was wasted during all the three years of filming his reality television show.

In "The Osbournes", which featured wife Sharon and two of his kids, Jack and Kelly, the former hell-raiser would often be seen running on a treadmill and getting fit.

But he says it was all a charade. Once the cameras stopped rolling, Ozzy, 60, supposedly a recovering alcoholic, would go to a room and get stoned.

Sharon said: "As Ozzy will tell you, the three years that we were filming, Ozzy was stoned the whole time. He wasn't sober for one day."

Ozzy revealed: "When the filming ended, I'd go in my little bunker and smoke a pipe and drink about a case of beer every day.

"I'd give myself some goodness and get up early in the morning and go jogging for six miles."

Ozzy admits he can't watch the show — because it's obvious by his body language in front of camera that he didn't know what time of day it was.

He admitted: "I used to do a lot of prescription drugs as well."

Varg Vikernes (Burzum) Released from Prison Today. // BURZUM Super Post

Duuuude. Source here.

"I'm ready for society — and I have been for many years," Vikernes told Dagbladet last July . "I have learned from my mistakes and become older. Now I just want to be together with my family. My mind has never been in prison; I think all the time about what I should do on the day that I am released." He added, "I have barely seen my son since he came into the world. Even though I hear his voice on the phone almost every day, it is very tough to not be present while he is growing up. I miss my family. And I look forward the day that I could work on my farm, create music, write books and be with the wife and kids around the clock — and live a normal life. I have received tremendous support from my family. It means a lot."
